Online sources report that the Moscow Metro will begin testing a fare payment system using facial recognition technology by the end of 2019. The project is being implemented jointly with Visionlabs and other developers.

The report also states that Visionlabs is just one of several participants in the project, which will test a new fare payment system. Companies participating in the testing will receive images from subway surveillance cameras, which will allow them to test the algorithms used to process biometric data. The developers plan to begin testing this year, but the exact start date for testing will be known after upcoming negotiations with the metro management.

Representatives of Visionlabs confirmed the fact of participation in the project, but chose not to disclose details regarding the upcoming tests. Let us remind you that Visionlabs is one of the largest developers of facial recognition systems in the Russian Federation. Slightly more than a quarter of the company's shares are owned by Sberbank.

Information that a pilot launch of a video surveillance system with facial recognition will take place in the Moscow Metro ΡΠΎΠΎΠ±Ρ‰Π°Π»ΠΎΡΡŒ in the middle of this month. It is known that to test the system, additional surveillance cameras were installed inside the turnstile area of ​​the Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station. The metro press service also reported that β€œthe best Russian IT companies” were involved in the project.
