Testing of fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks is accelerating in Moscow, as reported by the Vedomosti newspaper. In particular, it is planned to form new pilot 5G zones.
It is noted that the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF) did not extend the validity of 5G test zones in the 3,4-3,8 GHz frequency range. It is this band that is considered the most attractive for fifth-generation communication systems, however, these frequencies are now used by military, space structures, etc. Moreover, the current owners do not want to part with this range.
Therefore, the SCRF can expand the possibilities for testing 5G in a different range. In particular, the 5-25,25 GHz band may be used for 29,5G pilot zones in Moscow.
New test zones are proposed to be deployed on the territory of the Luzhniki sports complex and the Moscow City business center. Moreover, testing of the technology should be accelerated. If earlier it was planned to complete testing in 2020, now the current year is called. The Moscow Department of Information Technologies will coordinate the pilot zones.
We add that the large-scale deployment of fifth-generation mobile networks in our country will begin no earlier than 2021.
