Motorola Edge+ uses Micron's new fast LPDDR5 memory

Motorola today introduced a new Edge+ flagship smartphone worth $1000. The novelty is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, equipped with a 6,7-inch OLED screen with FHD + resolution, as well as a 108-megapixel main camera. Another interesting detail of the device is 12 GB of new LPDDR5 RAM manufactured by Micron.

This is the same memory that was announced in the recently announced flagship smartphone Xioami Mi 10.

According to Micron Technology vice president Christopher Moore, the new memory chips can deliver an unforgettable 5G experience, as well as provide the fastest device performance in any application.

The new Micron LPDDR5 chips provide 6,4 times faster performance and are capable of transmitting data at a speed of 20 Gb / s. In addition, the new memory is 4% more energy efficient than LPDDRXNUMX memory, which in turn will positively affect the overall battery life of mobile devices.

Mr. Moore noted that he personally tested the capabilities of the new Motorola Edge + smartphone and was very pleased with the device and especially the speed of the 108-megapixel main camera, noting the complete absence of a delay between shooting and saving the resulting image to the smartphone's flash drive.

β€œIt used to take about a second with LPDDR4 memory, but with the new memory it happens instantly. People will definitely see and feel the difference,” said the Vice President of Micron.

He also added that the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic will certainly have a negative impact on smartphone sales in 2020, including flagship solutions that offer support for 5G wireless technologies. He agrees with analysts who say that at first this technology will be available mainly for flagship devices, but already in 2021 we will be able to see it in most new devices in the middle price segment.

β€œIt was expected that the implementation of 5G support would happen faster, but the virus disrupted all plans,” Mr. Moore said.

Recall also that in March Micron start of delivery samples of LPDDR5 single-case assemblies with a record capacity for mid-range smartphones.
