Mozilla announces new values and lays off 250 employees

Mozilla Corporation on its blog announced a major restructuring and related layoffs of 250 employees.

The reasons for this decision, according to the organization's CEO Mitchell Baker, are financial problems associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the company's plans and strategy.

The chosen strategy is guided by five main principles:

  1. New focus on products. It is alleged that the organization will have several of them.
  2. New way of thinkingEngl. mind set). Expected to move from a conservative/closed stance to a more open and aggressive stance (probably in terms of standards - approx. transl.).
  3. New focus on technology. It is supposed to go beyond the "traditional web technology", as an example is given Bytecode Alliance.
  4. A new focus on the community, a greater openness to various initiatives being taken in building its (community's) vision of the Internet.
  5. New focus on economics and consideration of other business models.
