Mozilla will completely get rid of Flash in December with the release of Firefox 84

Adobe Systems is going to stop supporting the once popular Flash technology once and for all at the end of this year, and browser developers have been preparing for this historical moment for several years by gradually winding down support for the standard. Mozilla recently announced when it will take the final step in eliminating Flash from Firefox in an effort to improve security.

Flash support will be completely removed in Firefox 84, which is scheduled to launch in December 2020. This version of the browser will no longer be able to run Flash content. Currently, Mozilla Firefox comes with Flash disabled by default, but users can manually enable the extension if necessary.

Needless to say, enabling Flash is not recommended, but still not all sites have switched to HTML5. In the near future, Mozilla will continue down the path of ditching Flash in Firefox. The next big step is planned for October, when the company disables the extension in an early build of Nightly of its browser.

This makes sense because Mozilla always makes major changes to Firefox in Nightly builds first, then runs them through beta to make sure everything works well. After completing the testing process in these early builds, Mozilla is already making changes to the final versions of its browser. Needless to say, Mozilla isn't the only company moving away from Flash. The same thing happens in browsers based on the Chromium engine. As with Firefox, everything is happening in stages, so it will be a few more months until Flash disappears from all current browsers forever.
