Mozilla will stop sending telemetry to Leanplum in Firefox for Android and iOS

Mozilla has decided not to renew a contract with Leanplum, a marketing company that sent telemetry to mobile versions of Firefox for Android and iOS. By default, sending telemetry to Leanplum was turned on for about 10% of US users. Information about sending telemetry was displayed in the settings and was available for disabling (in the "Data collection" menu, the "Marketing data" item). The contract with Leanplum expires on May 31, until then Mozilla intends to disable integration with Leanplum services in its products.

A randomly generated unique program identifier was sent to the Leanplum servers (the server could also take into account the user's IP address), and data about when the user opened or saved bookmarks, created new tabs, used the Pocket service, cleared data, saved passwords, downloaded files, connected to a Firefox account, took screenshots, interacted with the address bar, and used search recommendations. Additionally, information was transmitted about the inclusion of synchronization, the installation of Firefox as the default browser, and the presence of Firefox Focus, Klar and Pocket applications on the device. The information was collected to optimize the interface and functionality of the browser, taking into account the actual behavior and needs of users.
