Mozilla is testing a site funding service promoted as an alternative to advertising

As part of the Test Pilot program, Mozilla suggested Firefox users to test the new service "Firefox Better Web with Scrollβ€œ, experimenting with alternative types of website financing. Testing is only available to Firefox desktop users in the United States. To connect, a single Firefox account is used, which is also used for synchronization. Participation requires installation of a special add-on in Firefox.

The main idea of the project is to use a paid subscription to the service to finance content creation, which allows website owners to do without displaying advertising. The service is organized jointly with the project scroll, developing a model similar to that implemented in the browser Brave β€” the user pays a subscription to the service ($2.49 per month) and has the ability to view sites, joined to the Scroll initiative, without advertising inserts. Until 70% funds received from users are distributed among the owners of partner sites, in proportion corresponding to the time spent by users subscribed to the service on each site (data on how much time spent on Scroll service sites collects using JavaScript code hosted on partner sites).
