Mozilla will launch MDN Plus, a paid documentation service for web developers

As part of an initiative to diversify revenue streams and reduce reliance on search engine contract funds, Mozilla is preparing to launch a new paid service, MDN Plus, to complement commercial initiatives such as Mozilla VPN and Firefox Relay Premium. The new service is scheduled to launch on March 9. The subscription price will be $10 per month or $100 per year.

MDN Plus is an enhanced version of the MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) site that provides a collection of documentation for web developers covering technologies supported by modern browsers, including JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and various Web APIs. Access to the main MDM archive will remain free as before. Recall that after the dismissal of all employees responsible for the preparation of documentation for MDN from Mozilla, the content of this site is funded by the Open Web Docs joint project, sponsored by Google, Igalia, Facebook, JetBrains, Microsoft and Samsung. The Open Web Docs budget is about $450 per year.

Among the differences of MDN Plus, there is an additional feed of articles in the style of hacks.mozilla.org with a deeper analysis of certain topics, the provision of tools for working with documentation offline and personalization of work with materials (creating personal collections of articles, subscribing to notifications about changes in articles of interest and adapting the design of the site to your own preferences). At the first stage, MDN Plus subscription will be open to users from the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.
