MSI: Core i7-9750H mobile processor will be significantly faster than its predecessor

Last month, Intel announced the 9th Gen Core H-series (Coffee Lake Refresh) high-performance mobile processors. Following from unofficial sources, it became known that laptops based on new Intel chips, supplemented by GeForce GTX 16-series video cards, will be presented in April. Another leak, which is MSI promotional materials, indirectly confirms the previous rumors, and also reveals details about future updates.

One of the slides compares the test results of the new Core i7-9750H processor with its predecessor, the Core i7-8750H, as well as with the older Core i7-7700HQ processor. In which benchmark the results were obtained, it is not specified, but they look somewhat unexpected. Despite the fact that the new Core i7-9750H and the old Core i7-8750H each have six cores and twelve threads, the difference between them reaches 28% in favor of the former.

One would think that such a big advantage could be achieved by increasing the clock frequency. However, there are no prerequisites for its significant growth. New Intel processors are still manufactured using the 14nm process technology, which means that the ratio of performance and power consumption of new products will remain at about the same level as their predecessors. And this raises the question of how MSI managed to get such different results. Unfortunately, there is no answer to it.

Also, slides showing the level of performance of the forthcoming GeForce GTX 1650 video card have hit the Web, and they look much more believable than the slide about the new Core i7. According to published data, the youngest video card of the Turing generation will receive 4 GB of memory and will be 24% faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 41% faster than the GeForce GTX 1050. In any case, this is the difference between the test results of accelerators in 3DMark 11 Performance. In addition, the ability of the new video card to provide a very high FPS in current games is noted.

On another slide, some specifications of the GeForce GTX 1650 are specified. As previously reported, the new video card will offer 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. The base clock frequency of the GPU will be 1395 MHz. Unfortunately, the GPU configuration is not specified, but if it offers 1024 CUDA cores, which is very likely, then the performance of the new video card will be higher than 2,8 Tflops. This should be sufficient for most Full HD AAA titles.

Finally, the last of the published slides indicate the preparation of two configurations of the MSI GL63 gaming laptop. Between themselves, they will differ in processors: Core i5-9300H and Core i7-9750H. Otherwise, both versions will be identical and will offer GeForce GTX 1650 graphics, 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB SSD and a 15,6-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution.
