MuseScore 4.2

A new version of the music score editor MuseScore 4.2 has been quietly and quietly released. This is a landmark update for guitarists, featuring a new guitar bend system with beautiful graphics and highly realistic playback. Version 4.2 also contains other important updates and improvements, including improvements to multi-part scores and much more.

The update also affected the collection of music samples: Muse Guitars, Vol. 1. This set includes six-string acoustic guitars with steel and nylon strings, two electric guitars and an electric bass. You can find it all on the Muse Hub, alongside Muse's long-established choral and orchestral collections. Look release video to evaluate the sound quality. If you want to taste the beauty of MuseScore sound, download and install the Muse Hub utility for Windows and Mac, or Muse Sounds Manager for Linux from the website https://www.musehub.com/ . Muse Sounds Manager is now available as an RPM package in addition to the DEB package. MuseScore can be used without heavy external collections; the package includes a standard sf2 sample bank.

New features in MuseScore 4.2:

    • Newly rewritten system for entering bands and setting up their playback.
    • Support for alternative string tunings.

    • Ability to exclude certain elements from a score or part

    • Ability to select specific sounds in SoundFont
    • Harp pedal patterns now affect glissando playback. (whatever that means)
    • Microtonal accents now affect note playback.
    • New "a tempo" and "primo tempo" palette elements that return playback to an earlier tempo (thanks to community member Remi Thebault)

    • Arpeggio support that spans different voices.
    • Options for placing connections “inside” or “outside” notes and chords.
    • Lots of improvements to keys, time signatures and parts (thanks to community member Samuel Mikláš).

    • 6-key Braille input via Braille panel (thanks to DAISY Music Braille Project and Sao Mai Center for the Blind)
  • Import Export
    • MEI (Music Encoding Initiative) format support (thanks to community members Laurent Pugin and Klaus Rettinghaus).
    • Various fixes and improvements to MusicXML.
  • Publishing to the cloud
    • Ability to update existing audio on Audio.com.
    • Possibility of simultaneous publication on MuseScore.com and Audio.com.
    • An optional list view for ratings on the Home tab that displays more detail than the default grid view.
    • Ability to open scores from MuseScore.com directly in MuseScore (no need to manually download and save the file)

Please note that scores created or saved in MuseScore 4.2 cannot be opened in previous versions of MuseScore, including MuseScore 4 and 4.1. Please use File > Export > MusicXML if you need to share your score with someone who cannot update to version 4.2.
