Strategy Analytics experts made a forecast for the global market for smartphones supporting fifth generation mobile networks (5G) for the current year.
Sales of 5G devices will initially remain limited. This is due to the high cost of such devices, a small number of available models and the lack of a developed network infrastructure.
In this regard, Strategy Analytics experts believe that 5G devices in 2019 will account for less than 1% of the total supply of smartphones.
In the first half of this year, Samsung will become the leader of the emerging 5G smartphone segment, according to analysts. In addition, LG, Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola and other companies will start selling such devices by the end of 2019. In 2020, Apple will join them with new iPhone models.
At the beginning of the next decade, the 5G smartphone market is expected to develop rapidly. As a result, in 2025, the annual sales of such devices, according to the forecasts of Strategy Analytics, may reach 1 billion units.
