The ammonia exits outside the US segment, where it is used in the space heat removal system loop. However, the situation is not critical, and nothing threatens the health of the astronauts.

β€œSpecialists have recorded an ammonia leak outside the American segment of the ISS. We are talking about a leakage rate of approximately 700 grams per year. But there is no threat to the crew of the station, ”said informed persons.

It should be noted that a similar problem has already occurred before: an ammonia leak from the cooling system of the American segment of the ISS was discovered in 2017. Then it was eliminated during the astronauts' spacewalk.

On October 14, another long-term expedition will leave for the ISS. The prime crew of ISS-64 includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, NASA astronaut Kathleen Rubins, and the backup crew includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov, NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei.
