MTS has published statistics on the Russian smartphone market for the first three quarters of this year: the industry is undergoing a transformation provoked by the pandemic and self-isolation of citizens.

From January to September, inclusive, it is estimated that Russians purchased about 22,5 million "smart" cellular devices worth more than 380 billion rubles. Compared to the same period in 2019, the growth was 5% in units and 11% in money terms. At the same time, the average cost of devices for the year increased by 6% - up to 16 rubles.

If we consider the market by brands in physical terms, then Samsung is on the first line with a share of 26%. In second place is Honor with 24%, and third is Xiaomi with 18%. Then come Apple with 10% and Huawei with 7%. Thus, Huawei with a subsidiary brand Honor is the leader with a total share of 31%.

In monetary terms, Apple smartphones are leading - 33%, Samsung - 27%, Honor - 16%, Xiaomi - 13% and Huawei - 5%.

It is noted that the pandemic provoked an explosive growth in online sales of smartphones in Russia. β€œIn the first nine months of this year, more gadgets were sold via the Internet than in the whole of last year. Compared to the same period in 2019, from January to September 2020, customers purchased 60% more devices in online stores in physical terms and 84% more in monetary terms,” notes MTS.
