Developer support system launched on GitHub

The system allows monthly transfer of fixed amounts to those developers who have registered as participants. For sponsors, however, privileges are promised, such as extraordinary elimination of errors. At the same time, GitHub will not charge a percentage for mediation, and will also cover the costs of transactions during the first year. Although in the future it is possible that deductions for processing payments will still be introduced. The financial side will be handled by the GitHub Sponsors Matching Fund.

In addition to the new monetization scheme, a service has appeared in GitHub to ensure project security. This system is built on the developments of Dependabot and automatically checks the code in the repositories for vulnerabilities. If a flaw is found, the system will notify the developers and automatically generate pull requests to fix it.

Finally, a token and access key scanner has appeared, which checks the data during the commit. If a key is determined to be compromised, a request is sent to service providers to confirm the leak. Available services include Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, GitHub, Google Cloud, Mailgun, Slack, Stripe, and Twilio.

It is noted that some users have already expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that GitHub began to support the donation system. Some people say outright that this is how Microsoft, which owns GitHub, is trying to make money from free software as well.
