Autonomous food delivery robots will appear on the streets of Paris

The Franprix grocery chain of the French Casino Group has announced plans to test food delivery robots on the streets of the 13th arrondissement of Paris during the year. Its partner will be the robot developer, the French startup TwinswHeel.

“This droid will make life easier for the citizens. Last mile delivery is critical. This is what builds relationships with customers,” said Franprix Managing Director Jean-Pierre Moshe about the service, which will be free.

A two-wheeled robot on an electric drive is able to overcome without recharging up to 25 km. For the transport of goods, it has a compartment with a volume of 30 or 40 liters.

Testing will be carried out by one of the retail chain stores using three robots. If successful, the experiment will be extended to a number of other Franprix stores.
