Out of the blue, Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed the development of a PlayStation 5 version of the popular MMO. The news was revealed at a small fan festival in London following an interview with Yoshida.
Final Fantasy XIV has been a huge success in recent years, with MMOs now seeing the highest number of active players ever. And there are many reasons for this, related to the development process and the Yoshida team, which tries to think first of all about what will be better for the players, and not what will become a larger source of income.
At the entrance to the event, regular visitors (except for journalists, PR people and Square Enix employees) were presented with lottery tickets, and then prizes were drawn, the main of which was a Yoshida-signed edition of the PS4 console in the design of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. After that, Naoki Yoshida himself, who was not announced, took the stage and announced that although the main prize this year was the PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy XIV, next year he hopes it will be the corresponding PlayStation 5 version, which he is hard at work team to make it available to fans around the world.
While the PlayStation 5 is compatible with the PS4, it makes sense that a new version of Final Fantasy XIV will also be released to take advantage of all the resources available on a next-generation console. Of course, one of the most successful MMOs in the world will benefit from this.
