“Our vision is very old-fashioned”: according to the developers, Star Wars: Squadrons is not a service game

During announcement Earlier this week, the developers of Star Wars: Squadrons at EA Motive announced that there will be no microtransactions in their project, and all items can be obtained exclusively through in-game achievements. They recently emphasized this in a conversation with the publication Game Informer. The creators said that Star Wars: Squadrons will not become a service game, although they do not exclude the release of some additions to the project in the future.

In a recent interview, EA Motive creative lead Ian Frazier stated: “Our vision is very old-fashioned. What we're trying to say is that the game has a $40 price tag, and we want to feel generous to the users and provide them with a complete product. You gave us your $40, so here's a game you'll love. Thank you. That's all. We do not build a project around the concept of a game-service. The team creates a complete creation, which is great in itself. That doesn't mean we'll never add anything [to Star Wars: Squadrons]. I think we could, but the project won't transition to a game-service concept."

Recall that Star Wars: Squadrons is an arcade action game about controlling starships. It includes two single player campaigns, for the New Republic and the Galactic Empire, as well as a multiplayer mode. At the last online show EA Play 2020 viewers showed gameplay footage of the game.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on October 2, 2020 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
