AMD Ryzen 3000 (Picasso) Desktop APUs Close to Release

AMD's new generation Ryzen desktop APUs, called Picasso, seem to be pretty close to release. This is indirectly indicated by the fact that one of the forum users of the Chinese resource Chiphell published photos of his sample of the Ryzen 3 3200G hybrid processor.

Recall that in January of this year, AMD introduced a new generation of mobile hybrid processors, which were included in the Ryzen 3000U and 3000H series. These APUs are manufactured on a 12nm process and use Zen+ cores paired with Vega graphics. Picasso generation APUs will soon be introduced to the desktop segment, where they will replace the current Raven Ridge family of APUs, offering higher clock speeds, as well as better energy efficiency due to Zen + cores and a 12nm process technology.

Unfortunately, the Chinese source provides only a few photos of the novelty, and even then, one of them is partially retouched, and the other shows the Ryzen 3 3200G with the cover removed in the company of two more AMD chips. The source does not give any details about the characteristics of the novelty.

However, a well-known source of leaks with the pseudonym Tum Apisak did this in a discussion of Chinese photos on Reddit. He noted that the Ryzen 3 3200G will certainly be able to offer four Zen + cores and four threads, as well as 512 stream processors in the GPU. At the expense of clock frequencies, he noted that so far only one result of testing the new APU has been found, and there frequencies of 3,6 / 3,9 GHz for computing cores and 1250 MHz for GPUs are attributed to it. However, it could be an engineering sample, and then the chip will offer higher frequencies in the final version. However, the current Ryzen 3 2200G is clocked at 3,5/3,7 GHz and 1100 MHz, so there will be some boost for sure.

In addition to the Ryzen 3 3200G, AMD should also release a more powerful desktop APU of the Picasso generation. We are talking, of course, about the Ryzen 5 3400G processor, which will replace the current Ryzen 5 2400G. It will likely offer four Zen+ cores and eight threads, as well as 704 stream processors. Here, clock speeds are unfortunately not known, but they should be higher than the current Ryzen 5 2400G frequencies: 3,6 / 3,9 GHz for the CPU and 1250 MHz for the GPU.
