AirPods Pro headphones are almost unrepairable due to the silicone liner

After weeks of Apple rumors recently introduced AirPods Pro headphones, which offered active noise cancellation and improved sound. They cost $249 and are based on the Apple H1 chip, and the company says the H1's extremely low latency audio processing provides simultaneous real-time noise reduction, high-quality audio using adaptive technology, and support for Siri voice prompts.

As is the case with every significant Apple product launch, iFixit disassembled AirPods Pro and found that the headphones are still not user-repairable (and for specialists, this will also not be a trivial task).

The silicone eartips on AirPods Pro use a special mount, so eartips from other devices cannot be used on AirPods Pro. However, according to iFixit's teardown, Apple's unusual design allows for a wider sound hole than conventional in-ear headphones.

Apple engineering, including solder and glue, is designed to keep the product as small and light as possible. However, the battery can be attributed to the ambiguous design features of the AirPods Pro headphones - although theoretically it is replaceable, this is not easy to do due to the fact that it is soldered to the contacts.

This node is connected by a cable through a ZIF (zero-insertion-force) connector to the main part of the case. Electronics, however, cannot be simply removed - it is required that the base be cut off.

The storage case with its own battery is very similar to the previous generation and uses a lot of the same chips. The Lightning port is modular and theoretically replaceable, provided the user can find a replacement part. Overall, for consumers, iFixit gave the AirPods Pro a repairability score of 0 out of 10, which was expected.

Apple's current service policy provides for in-store replacement of broken AirPods Pro headphones and charging cases. It is not known what Apple does with broken copies received from customers - iFixit believes that the new headphones could potentially be slightly more repairable, but not by consumers. Apple is speculated to be able to fix broken AirPods Pro or charging case by replacing some parts given the use of the ZIF connector and the modular nature of this component.
