The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled for next fall.
The named device will become the largest and most powerful orbital observatory in history: the size of the composite mirror will reach 6,5 meters. James Webb is one of NASA's most complex and expensive projects.
The new telescope will replace the Hubble, which celebrated its 2007th anniversary this year. The launch of the James Webb observatory has been repeatedly postponed due to various difficulties. So, the launch was originally planned for 2014. Then 2015, 2018, 2019 and XNUMX were named sequentially. One last time about delayed launch last month: NASA decided to postpone the March 2021 launch indefinitely.
And now it is said that the launch of the observatory into space is scheduled for October 31, 2021. Another delay is due to the spread of the coronavirus, which provoked a reduction in the number of employees involved in the project. In addition, there were some technical difficulties.
We add that the new space telescope will have to study objects in the solar system, search for exoplanets and possible traces of life in the universe, as well as solve many other problems.
