Not a single flagship: six-core Ryzen 3000 excels in SiSoftware computing test

Less and less time remains before the official announcement of the Ryzen 3000 processors, and more and more leaks about them appear on the Web. The source of the next piece of information was the database of the popular SiSoftware benchmark, where a record was found about testing the six-core Ryzen 3000 chip. Note that this is the first mention of the Ryzen 3000 with such a number of cores.

According to the test data, the processor has 12 computational threads and was running at a clock speed of 3,3 GHz during testing. Given such a low frequency, we can assume that this is just an engineering sample. And the fact that the chip really has six cores, and not twelve with SMT disabled, is evidenced by the fact that the second-level cache is divided into six parts of 512 KB each.

But the volume of the cache of the third level is indicated, most likely, incorrectly. According to the test, it is 32 MB and is divided into four parts of 8 MB. It turns out that the total volume is indicated correctly, but it must be divided into two parts of 16 MB each, because that is how much one CCX in chips with the Zen 2 architecture accounts for, and there are two CCXs on one chip. Most likely, there was a mistake, or it is a processor with a pair of eight-core crystals, in which most of the cores and half of the cache were disabled manually or during production.

As for the performance level, it turned out to be quite impressive in the computational test (Processor Arithmetic). The tested engineering sample at a frequency of 3,3 GHz showed a result of 196,8 GOPS. In comparison, the six-core Ryzen 5 2600X at a much higher frequency of 4,2 GHz is able to achieve a result of 180-190 GOPS. It turns out that we can really count on an increase in IPC by 20-25%.

By the way, the six-core Ryzen 3000 was tested on the advanced MSI MEG X570 Ace motherboard, which was recently casually demonstrated by MSI itself and will be officially presented at Computex 2019.
