“I don’t see the difference”: the remaster of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was compared with the original, and the result is depressing

Today a leak I didn't lie: Electronic Arts really announced Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, which is being developed by two studios - Criterion Games and Stellar Entertainment. Meanwhile, the author of the YouTube channel Crowned took advantage of the moment and quickly released a video comparing the original and the remaster. As it turns out, the differences between them are minimal.

“I don’t see the difference”: the remaster of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was compared with the original, and the result is depressing

In his video, the blogger compared three versions of the game at once: the Xbox 360 version, the PC version and the re-release. The first one noticeably lags behind the other two in terms of texture quality, drawing distance and other aspects, so it can be immediately discarded. But then things get more interesting. Already from the first frames it is clear that there is almost no difference between the remaster and the original on PC, which is no longer available for purchase. The only thing that really catches your eye is the slightly changed lighting. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered has become a little brighter than the game ten years ago. And the second at least somewhat significant improvement is the visual effect when flames momentarily burst out of the exhaust pipes.

Otherwise, changes are either absent or difficult to notice. Literally everything, from weather conditions to car detailing, remains the same. Commentators on YouTube share the same opinion. A user under the pseudonym Galaxel wrote: “I want to be honest - I can’t tell what the difference is.” And most people agree with him.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered will be released on November 6, 2020 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and a week later it will reach Nintendo Switch.
