Amazon has joined Google in accusing Microsoft of anti-competitive behavior in the UK cloud market and sending a letter about this to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). In its letter dated November 23, 2023, published recently on the CMA website, Amazon noted that Microsoft's licensing methods limit customer choice and make it difficult to switch to other providers. “For example, Microsoft changed licensing terms in 2019 and again in 2022 to make it more difficult for customers to launch some popular software offerings on Google Cloud, AWS, and Alibaba Cloud,” Amazon noted. - To use many Microsoft software products with those cloud service providers, the customer must purchase a separate license, even if they already own the software. This often makes it financially unviable for the customer to choose a vendor other than Microsoft."
