The lack of 5G frequencies in Russia will provoke an increase in the cost of subscriber devices

Refusal of frequency conversion for fifth generation mobile networks (5G) in Russia may result in a significant increase in the cost of subscriber devices and services. About this, as reported by the network publication "RIA Novosti", warned the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Maxim Akimov.

The lack of 5G frequencies in Russia will provoke an increase in the cost of subscriber devices

We are talking about the allocation of the 5-3,4 GHz band for 3,8G networks, which cellular operators are counting on. These frequencies are the most preferred in terms of user equipment compatibility.

Now these frequencies are used by military, space structures, etc. And this is precisely the problem: law enforcement agencies do not want to transfer the band for 5G services.

The world's largest 5G equipment manufacturers will focus on the 3,4-3,8 GHz band. If it is not possible to β€œclear” it in Russia, serious difficulties may arise with the development of fifth generation networks in our country.

β€œIf we leave a narrow range, very specific, on which little of what is produced in the world works - I mean user devices - then the consumer will pay for it in the end. It's not even a matter of technological efficiency... It will simply cost a lot if we do not release promising frequencies," Mr. Akimov emphasized.
