After discovering the game, Amos sent it to Wata Games, a company specializing in gaming rarities. Its CEO Deniz Kahn identified the game and appreciated the quality of the cartridge. The packaging received an 8 out of 10. After that, he connected Scott to the Heritage auction to put the item up for sale.

β€œKid Icarus is one of the iconic games on the NES. Finding a sealed copy is very difficult. It's almost impossible. According to Heritage, there are about 10 such copies in the hands of collectors, if they are left unopened, ”said Valarie McLeckie, director of video game sales at the Heritage auction.

Amos himself noted that they don't know exactly how the cartridge ended up in the attic. The family assumes that his mother bought it for Christmas, but never gave it to the children. Mom herself does not remember this.

This is far from a record figure for the cost of rare NES games. So, in February 2019, the Heritage auction was sold out cartridge of the original Super Mario Bros. Released in 1985 for $100,1. The sold version is especially valuable because it has survived from the NES test run.
