In the EU, they feared that the transmission of high-quality video would overload the infrastructure of telecom operators during the general self-isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. A similar request to reduce the quality of video streaming in the European market was sent to the Amazon Prime Video and YouTube platforms. The latter, for example, set the default content quality to SD. However, if desired, users can select a higher quality manually.

Netflix has increased its 4K video streaming speed to 15,25 Mbps, according to The Verge. Back in April, it was two times lower and amounted to 7,62 Mbps, which is the necessary minimum for transmitting a compressed 4K stream. The return of a higher bitrate is observed by users of the service from Denmark, Germany, Norway and other European countries.

At the same time, high speed is not yet available for everyone. For example, users in the UK still face data transfer restrictions. Netflix notes that they are already working with telecom operators on the issue of expanding transmission channels, but this will take some time.

Other streaming platforms are also starting to bring back faster data rates. Resource 9to5Mac reported that for Apple TV + subscribers, the company restored the usual data transfer rate at the end of April.
