Nightdive studio, which produces remasters of classic games, has announced Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition - a reissue of the 1997 quest. The resource reported this in an exclusive material Hollywood Reporter.

Blade Runner was developed for PC by the famous Westwood Studios, which created the Eye of the Beholder, The Legend of Kyrandia, Dune, Lands of Lore and Command & Conquer series. The game's source code was lost when the development team moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. For this reason, the quest could not be released for modern OS for a long time - this happened only in December 2019 after the creators of the ScummVM emulator came to the rescue.

Nightdive restores the game code using reverse engineering and ports it to its own KEX Engine. Nightdive Business Development Director Larry Kuperman noted that this powerful tool will allow the game to be ported to consoles even in such a difficult situation.

Among the features of Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition are improved character models, animations and cutscenes in the engine, support for widescreen format and the ability to change the keyboard and gamepad layout.

“Blade Runner remains a stunning achievement in every way,” said studio CEO Stephen Kick. “With the KEX Engine, the graphics and gaming experience will be much better, but at the same time we will leave the vision of the developers at Westwood intact and the gameplay in all its glory. You'll be able to enjoy all the benefits of playing Blade Runner on modern hardware, but in terms of visuals and feel, it won't be the same as it was in the past, but rather the same as you remember it."

The game does not retell Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, but its events intersect with what is happening in the film. It was one of the first quests with characters and environments in 3D with real-time visualization. Critics called it one of the best representatives of the genre, and its sales exceeded a million copies worldwide. Virgin planned to create a sequel, but abandoned the idea due to the potential unprofitability.

Nightdive Studios has released many remasters of quests from the 90s. Among them are The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, Noctropolis, Harvester and The Labyrinth of Time. The studio also re-released both parts of System Shock, Forsaken, Blood, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. She is currently working on remake of the original System Shock. The timing of its release has not yet been determined, but it is known that it will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In January, developers сообщили, that they are trying to get the rights to release updated versions of games in the No One Lives Forever series.

On March 20, simultaneously with the premiere of Doom Eternal, another remaster from Nightdive Studios will be released - the shooter Doom 64, a Nintendo 64 exclusive from 1997. They will add to it additional story chapter.
