Ninja Theory: The Insight Project - a project to combine games with the study of mental health issues

Ninja Theory studios are no strangers to mental health games. The developer was recognized for Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, which depicted a warrior named Senua. The girl struggles with psychosis, which she considers a curse. HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice has won numerous awards, including five BAFTAs, three The Game Awards and an award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Great Britain.

Since the game's release and success, Tameem Antoniades, co-founder and creative director of Ninja Theory, has continued to communicate with Paul Fletcher, a psychiatrist and professor of neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. The latter was consulted by the studio while working on Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. The collaboration with the professor led Ninja Theory to a new project: The Insight Project.

Through The Insight Project, the studio is assembling a team to explore and understand mental health issues, including how to incorporate them into game design, bringing together both sides of cutting-edge technology. Ninja Theory's game development tools will be used alongside science-based methods for understanding the relationship between mind and body. The project will also adhere to "rigorous scientific principles to ensure its effectiveness and validity, as well as strict standards of ethics and data management."
