Kojima reiterated that Death Stranding is an open-world action game. You will be free as in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. But he again emphasized that the project will bring something new to the genre. Players will try to connect with each other, but at the same time travel alone - the Internet is used as a metaphor for the main theme of the project. In both gameplay and story, β€œconnection” will be key. Everyone will be connected. But Kojima couldn’t go deeper, because Sony Interactive Entertainment wouldn’t like it: β€œI don’t want to be disconnected from Sony.”

The author of the game also added that β€œconnecting is the same as disconnecting; is the connection correct? Is it better to switch off?" Kojima wants players to think about this in the context of their lives and the world. He cited dating and European politics as examples. The game designer also shared that it is difficult to tell a story in an open world game because the developer must balance between player freedom and story. To progress through the story, you have to go in a certain direction, but at the same time, Kojima wants players to feel like they are making a choice.

In addition, Kojima discussed working with Hollywood actors. While he can create 100% of what he wants with simple CG, he is limited by his imagination. Real actors, on the other hand, may surprise Hideo with extra depth. He said he couldn't go back to the days before motion capture technology. Norman Reedus, who plays the main character Sam, added that players β€œwill cry” during the passage.

Perhaps we will learn additional details about Death Stranding in the coming months. Let us remind you that the game is being developed for PlayStation 4 on the engine Horizon Zero Dawn.
