New Game+, Performance and RTX Improvements: First Major Metro Exodus Patch Released

Almost a month and a half after the premiere, the developers from 4A Games released the first major patch for Metro Exodus - Ranger Update. It brings a host of new features, including a New Game+ mode with developer commentary that you can listen to as you play, and improvements to the performance and performance of NVIDIA RTX real-time ray tracing technology. The update is 6 GB in size and is already available on all platforms.

Starting Metro Exodus in New Game+ mode after completing the campaign, the user (if desired) will receive all the weapons and modifications that they have unlocked during past playthroughs (all of which will appear on the Aurora workbench after Anna's release in Moscow). This does not apply to suit upgrades and wrist devices.

The new mode provides various settings that add variety to replays. For example, you can not carry all the weapons found, but leave only one slot and carry no more than one “barrel” with you (while it is allowed to change it). It is also suggested to turn off the ability to craft with a backpack (in this case, it will only be available at workbenches) and use the backpack only for weapon modification. At the beginning of the game, in addition to other weapons, you can now get a crossbow. Enemies were allowed to be strengthened - when the corresponding options are turned on, the armor of human enemies increases by one level (if possible), and mutants become less susceptible to damage. The Grenadiers setting forces opponents to use grenades more frequently in combat.

The game day can be extended to a full twenty-four hours (instead of the standard two), and the weather can be worsened (fog, rain, snow and sandstorms will occur more often). In addition, it is now possible to add additional zones of radiation contamination to some levels, which will make the gas mask more important. Another innovation - "Iron Mode" - completely disables the ability to save the game (progress is recorded only between levels). In addition, new achievements and trophies can be unlocked in New Game+.

Finally, developer comments are available in this mode. The authors' stories about the creation of certain locations and other features are reproduced in the form of tape recordings. To listen to them, you need to find these very tape recorders.

Other changes and innovations:

  • improved control responsiveness. The developers have added a fourth set of controller sensitivity settings with even finer parameters, improved the auto-aim and dead zone system for each platform;
  • Improved optimization, performance and game balance. The creators have made a lot of changes based on gamer error messages. Among others, they complied with a request to add a separate volume control for dubbed voiceovers;
  • added keyboard and mouse support for Xbox One;
  • improved support for RTX and DLSS;
  • Added support for the DualShock Light controller for PlayStation 4, as well as DualShock and Steam Controller for PC;
  • added full Ukrainian localization.

To top it off, the developers fixed a lot of bugs, some of which led to crashes. User reviews also helped in this. The authors note that overall the patch "significantly improves stability", but warn that the level-specific changes will only fully take effect after the level is restarted (this can be done through the chapter select menu).

Full details of the Ranger Update for PC can be found here and for consoles can be found here. The developers thanked the players for their patience and help in finding problems, and also reported that they are already working on the next patches.

Metro Exodus was released on February 15 for PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
