New issue in HPE SSDs resulting in data loss after 40000 hours

Hewlett Packard Enterprise second time faced with a problem in SSD drives with a SAS interface, due to an error in the firmware leading to the irretrievable loss of all data and the impossibility of further using the drive after 40000 hours of operation (accordingly, if drives are simultaneously added to RAID, then they will all fail at the same time ). Same problem before surfaced in November of last year, but the last time the data was corrupted after 32768 hours of operation. Given the start date for the release of problematic drives, data loss will not appear until October 2020. The error is solved by updating the firmware to at least version HPD7.

The issue affects SAS SSDs
HPE 800GB/1.6TB 12G SAS WI-1/MU-1 SFF SC SSD available in HPE ProLiant, Synergy, Apollo 4200, Synergy Storage Modules, D3000 Storage Enclosure and StoreEasy 1000 Storage servers and storage. The issue does not affect 3PAR StoreServ Storage, D6000/D8000 Disk Enclosures, ConvergedSystem 300/500, MSA Storage, Nimble Storage, Primera Storage, SimpliVity, StoreOnce, StoreVirtual 4000/3200 Storage, StoreEasy 3000 Storage, XP Storage, and SAP HANA products.

You can estimate how long the drive has already worked having looked "Power On Hours" value in the Smart Storage Administrator report, which can be generated by the "ssa -diag -f report.txt" command.
