I’ll say right away that the builds of this “Computer of the Month” have not changed much compared to with August release. And we can not say that we are faced with a bad trend. If only because over the past almost three years (“Computer of the Month” appeared on our website at the beginning of 2017), we have experienced many exciting and unpleasant moments. Flash memory went up, and with it, RAM and solid-state drives. Oil became cheaper, and with it the Russian currency depreciated. We are faced with a shortage of Intel products - the memories of the Core i5-8400, which is sold for 20+ thousand rubles, are still fresh. Finally, for a very long time, the whole world was literally tormented by a mining fever, the echoes of which are still being felt. So a little stability and calm will definitely not hurt us, at least in September. 

Six-core Ryzen 5 1600 "settled" in the starting assembly of AMD back in July - at a time when, against the backdrop of news about the imminent release of the Ryzen 3000 chip family, prices for "red" processors of previous generations plummeted. Now Ryzen 5 1600, taking into account rounding, costs 8 rubles, plus another 500 rubles, I recommend spending on a simple, but tower cooler. The same Deepcool GAMMAXX 1T will allow you to easily overclock the chip to 000-200 GHz - the main thing is not to overestimate the CPU voltage too much, because the system uses far from the most sophisticated Gigabyte GA-AB3,8M-DS3,9H V350 motherboard. Can I buy the Ryzen 3 2 BOX version? It is possible, but in Regard for a six-core unit, which comes with a cooler, they ask for the same 5 rubles. "Tower" Deepcool GAMMAXX 1600T will still be better. 

To be honest, every month I open a tab with Ryzen 5 1600 in Regard with trepidation. Because it is clear that the processor is a little bit, but more expensive. The starting assembly is not rubber, and the amount of 9 rubles for a bunch of “processor + cooler” is, as they say, on the verge. But I really want to offer you a 500-core - this is a really strong link in the system, which over time will allow, for example, to upgrade the video card without any problems, and take something like the Radeon RX 6. Taking into account that Ryazan will be overclocked, of course same. 

If there is no money for Ryzen 5 1600, then you will have to choose among 4-core AMD models. We immediately brush aside such chips as the Ryzen 5 2500X and Ryzen 5 1500X - at a price of 8 rubles (excluding the cooler), saving 000 rubles looks like real sabotage. But for the Ryzen 500 3X in the OEM configuration, they are already asking for 2300 rubles. This option may well be considered. Ryzen 6 500 (5 rubles) and Ryzen 1400 6 (000 rubles) look even more interesting. After all, 2 rubles is already a decent savings. In addition, all of the listed processors are quite easy to overclock to at least 1200-4 GHz. You can compare the performance of most of the listed CPUs in games using a fairly fast video card by reading the article "AMD Ryzen 5 2500X and 3 2300X Processor Review: Dream Quad Cores". For example, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Ryzen 5 1600 was 3% faster than the Ryzen 2300 46X when compared to the minimum FPS. And 84% - Ryzen 3 1300X, which, as we know, is a little faster than Ryzen 3 1200. Naturally, the starting assembly does not use the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, but the 8-gigabyte version of the Radeon RX 570, so the difference between the stipulated AMD chips will be significant less. And yet, the results presented clearly show that the Ryzen 5 1600 has a decent margin of safety, while the 4-core Zen stones do not. So decide for yourself, dear readers, whether you need to save 2-3 thousand rubles on the central processor now. I don't think it's necessary. 

In the case of Intel's launch build, there is no question of the so-called CPU downgrade at all. The Core i3-9100F is the cheapest quad-core at the time of writing, for the BOX version of which Regard asks for 7 rubles, rounded off. And if you nevertheless set yourself the goal of saving on the CPU, then you will have to take a dual-core model, or better (more profitable) than just the Pentium Gold G500 (5400 rubles). However, in modern games (for example, in Battlefield V), the "stump", to be honest, is already choking. I already noted this in the last issue of "Computer of the Month": the era of dual-core chips in gaming systems (even the most entry-level ones) is over. Here, for 11 rubles, they give a 500-core Core i6-5F - and, honestly, it’s better to look in its direction (if suddenly the AM9400 platform is taboo for you), and not try to save money in the way described above.

Just keep this in mind: in order for the motherboard to detect the Core i3-9100F, you need to update its BIOS. With a high degree of probability in retail you will be sold a device with an old firmware version. Immediately after purchase, contact the store's warranty department and ask for a BIOS update. And use your computer to your health.

As for the video card for the launch assembly, here once again I bet on the 8-gigabyte version of the Radeon RX 570 - in August, they ask for 570 rubles for the MSI RX 8 ARMOR 12G OC model. Its direct competitor, the GeForce GTX 000, costs about the same. But, according to our review, the NVIDIA accelerator turns out to be both slower and more unpromising (due to 4 GB of VRAM, of course). This video card can only be recommended to those who play certain undemanding games, which are much better optimized for work with GeForce. For example, fans of the ageless GTA V. 

Interestingly, apparently GeForce GTX 1650 Ti will still be on sale this fall. Only if the rumors are true, and the video card really has only 4 GB of video memory, then it is unlikely to ever appear in the starting assembly of the “Computer of the Month”.

In general, the situation with the choice of a video card is to some extent a stalemate. There is an 8-gigabyte Radeon RX 570, which performs well in modern games using high-quality graphics. And... And that's it. Versions of the same accelerator with 4 GB VRAM cost in the range of 11-12 thousand rubles, that is, you won’t be able to significantly save on buying such an accelerator. I already talked about the GeForce GTX 1650, but the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti costs 9-11 thousand rubles. At this price, this is junk, not a gaming graphics card.

Perhaps another step to reduce the cost of the starting assembly will be the purchase of 8 GB of RAM instead of 16 GB. Just be aware that now many modern games consume more than 8 GB of RAM. So there is not much to save in the starting assembly. We see that the pursuit of a profit of 2-4 thousand rubles eventually turns into a serious drop in system performance and a decrease in the already small reserve for the future.

There is an undeniable fact: the new Ryzen processors turned out to be very good. Zen 2 architecture excels both in games and resource-intensive applications. Naturally, Ryzen 3000 chips are now selling out very well - like freshly baked pies, which, unfortunately, leads to a shortage of AMD products.

Last month, the Ryzen 5 3600 cost an average of 14 rubles, but in September, Regard asks 500 rubles more for this six-core. Naturally, other chips of the Ryzen 1 series have also risen in price. At the same time, you can take the Ryzen 000 3000X for 12 rubles, the 000-core Ryzen 5 2600 is sold for 13 rubles, and the Ryzen 500 8 for 7 rubles. At first glance, it will seem that it is better to use 1700-cores, because there are more cores! 

In the last issue, I have already described in detail my opinion on this matter. Ryzen 5 3600 is a processor of a fundamentally different level. The architecture update, as well as the layout of the chiplets, led to the fact that the processors of the Matisse generation significantly improved performance - especially in games. Read the article "Review of AMD Ryzen 5 3600X and Ryzen 5 3600 processors: six-core healthy person”- the test results clearly show that when using a powerful video card in the stand, the new six-core AMD processors outperform the first and second generation Ryzen processors (both with six and eight cores) by 10-15% in games. It is clear that much less fast adapters of the Radeon RX 590 and GeForce GTX 1660 class are recommended in the base assembly, but I present all the Computer of the Month assemblies, including with the expectation of a future upgrade - we already talked about this when discussing the starting configuration. 

In general, I think that the situation with the choice of CPU for the base assembly of AMD has been analyzed in some detail, so decide for yourself. If you want to save money, but don't want to mess around with overclocking, take the 6-core Ryzen 5 2600X. There is no money for a Ryzen 5 3600, but you are not averse to overclocking - buy a Ryzen 7 1700 and raise its frequency yourself to at least 3,9 GHz.

And yet, I do not exclude the possibility that in the future the Ryzen 5 3600 will leave the base assembly if its cost continues to grow. Might be here soon six-core model Ryzen 5 3500, which will lose support for SMT technology.

With a very high probability, a motherboard not based on the X570 chipset, bought now in a store, simply will not detect a new chip. You can update the BIOS version yourself, armed with a 450st or 4nd generation Ryzen processor, or ask for it at the warranty department of the store where the board was purchased. Make sure your board supports the new Ryzen processors before you buy! This is done simply: in the search, drive in the name of the device; go to the manufacturer's website and open the "support" tab. For example, the ASRock B3.30M ProXNUMX-F motherboard requires at least firmware version XNUMX.

By the way, we tested the Ryzen 5 3600X processor using various motherboards based on the B450, X470 and X570 chipsets. The fact is that at the time of the release of the Matisse family of chips, there were a lot of rumors that only the most modern set of logic would provide the best performance of the Ryzen 3000 due to the Precision Boost 2 function. Well, our tests showwhat it's not: The Ryzen 5 3600X showed the same level of performance when using three different motherboards. So solutions based on the B450 chipset are great for the XNUMXth series.

And yet, between the assemblies of AMD and Intel, there is a certain bias towards the AM4 platform. And all because the Ryzen 5 3600 costs significantly more than the Core i5-9400F and something is not going to drop to the recommended $ 200 yet. On the one hand, in games at Full HD resolution using the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card, our tests show that these chips perform very smoothly. So, Core i5-9400 (the assembly uses a chip with the letter F in the name, which indicates that the processor does not have an integrated GPU) is slightly faster than the Ryzen 5 3600 in five cases out of eight. However, in this case, it is necessary to correctly perceive the information received. In the article, the Core i5-9400 processor was tested together with high-frequency RAM, and such RAM kits, as we know, are only supported by boards based on the Z370 and Z390 Express chipsets. In our case, the Core i5-9400F is used - and it is used together with slow DDR4-2666 RAM, because in order to save money, a board based on the younger B360 Express chipset has been added to the Intel base assembly. If you have read the articleDetails about the Intel H370, B360 and H310 chipsets: what will those who save on the motherboard have to put up with?”, then you know that the use of slow RAM even with the younger six-core Intel noticeably reduces the level of system performance. So in our case, the Core i5-9400F will still be slower than the Ryzen 5 3600 in games if you use a high-end graphics card. At the same time, when using a slower graphics adapter, the systems presented in this paragraph will show approximately the same results.

At the same time, the AMD system uses Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Gray (BLS8G4D32AESBK) modules, which operate at an effective frequency of 3200 MHz by default, but overclock to 3600 MHz quite easily. Using faster RAM kits with Ryzen 3000 chips doesn't make much sense. Why this happens, you can read in the article "AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Processor Review: Zen 2 in all its glory».

Unfortunately, there are no more affordable alternatives for the Core i5-9400F within the Intel base assembly, because we are dealing with the cheapest six-core. There is no point in "going down" to the level of 4-core Core i3 - we discussed this point earlier.

As always, I explain about the choice of a video card, because once again the emphasis is on models such as the GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB and the Radeon RX 590 8 GB. On the one hand, the video cards cost the same, but the NVIDIA accelerator is consistently ahead of the Radeon RX 590 - by 8% on average. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 590 has 2 GB more video memory. In the article "How much video memory do modern games needIt is clearly shown that such a difference in the amount of VRAM is already affecting now, and in the future it may become quite critical. It turns out that the Radeon RX 590 is slower than the GeForce GTX 1660, but it will last longer in the distance. As always, I recommend choosing a video card based on the list of your favorite games. If the GeForce is better in them, then we take the GeForce GTX 1660.

From it we know that when all six cores are loaded, the first model operates at a frequency of 4,1-4,35 GHz, and the second at a frequency of 4,0-4,2 GHz. In this case, both samples are completely unacceptable to overclocking. We know that the Ryzen 5 3600 costs 15 rubles, but the Ryzen 500 5X is already asking for 3600 rubles. I think that there is no need to overpay 18 rubles for an additional 500 MHz. Therefore, both in the base and in the optimal builds, only the younger 3-core Matisse processors are used. 

By the way, a similar situation is observed between models such as Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 7 3800X. So in the advanced and maximum assemblies, the younger, more affordable model is also used - only eight-core.

By the way, the use of the same processors in the basic and optimal assemblies led some readers to the conclusion that these configurations differ little from each other. However, I strongly disagree with this opinion! Increasing your PC build budget allows for a better motherboard, faster NVMe SSD, and more efficient cooler and power supply. Well, I chose a more expensive case. With all this, the assembly has a Radeon RX 5700, which is faster than the Radeon RX 590 by an average of 30%.

Intel's optimal build has changed even more. The six-core Core i5-9500F costs 14 rubles in September. With all six cores loaded, it runs at 000GHz, 4,2MHz faster than the Core i300-5F. In my opinion, this is already a noticeable difference - especially considering that we cannot overclock the Intel processor on our own. The letter "F" in the name of the device indicates that we have a chip with a blocked integrated graphics. In addition, for several months now I have been advising you to take an inexpensive motherboard based on the Z9400 or Z370 Express chipset into this system. Yes, we have a processor that cannot be overclocked. However, we can speed it up with the help of fast RAM. Our tests showthat the "Core i5-8400 + DDR4-3200" bundle is not inferior to the "Core i5-8500 + DDR4-2666" tandem in terms of performance. Consequently, the Core i5-9500F will also become, let's say, one step higher. In addition, such a board will eventually allow replacing the younger 6-core with something more interesting and productive. And in this configuration, a PC with a Core i5-9500F will definitely not yield to a system with a Ryzen 5 3600 in games.

As always, the Radeon RX 5700 is recommended in the optimal assembly - the reference design model costs an average of 26-27 thousand rubles. It has its drawbacks: the video card is very hot and quite noisy under load. However, it is quite possible to put up with these disadvantages, knowing that the junior representative of Navi turns out to be consistently faster and cheaper than the GeForce RTX 2060 - the difference between these video cards is on average 7%. By the way, non-reference versions of the Radeon RX 5700 are already on sale. For example, in Regard you can take the Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 Pulse OC (11294-01-20G) model, which costs 30 rubles. As I noted, non-reference versions for the most part will cost significantly more. But they will be faster, quieter and colder.

The cost of the 6-gigabyte version of the GeForce RTX 2060 varies from 24 to 500 rubles. But 34-gigabyte SUPER-models cost 500-8 thousand rubles. We recently posted a review on our website. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER GAMING OC 8G, which once again clearly showed that 6 GB of VRAM is a weak point of modern video cards. The lack of video memory in the 6-gigabyte version also affects games that support ray tracing. Therefore, the presence of modern technologies in the GeForce RTX 2060, which, obviously, is the future, is not a significant advantage over the Radeon RX 5700.

So for an optimal build, choose between the cheaper option (Radeon RX 5700) and the more expensive one (GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, Radeon RX 5700 XT).
