New article: Xiaomi Mi 10 smartphone review: a little further from paradise
Xiaomi introduced Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro back in February - when the MWC conference, canceled at the last moment, was supposed to take place. What happened next, you know very well - due to the pandemic, the release of smartphones outside the Chinese market was greatly delayed. They reach Russian retail only now, three months later. But the chances of success are still high - there may be less money in the world, but competition has also decreased: the US-Huawei war has a positive effect on the prospects of everyone who in recent years the Chinese giant has even slightly overshadowed.
Xiaomi Mi 10 is the first to enter the market, Mi 10 Pro is a little behind. These smartphones have identical design and filling (with the exception of memory - the Pro version has a 12/512 GB option, while the regular version does not), but they differ in rear cameras: if Mi 10 received a module with a wide-angle camera that is quite ordinary by today's standards , but without a specialized zoom camera, the Mi 10 Pro has a wide angle, 10x optical zoom, and even a periscope module with XNUMXx optical zoom. For the test, we got a simpler, but also more “popular” Mi XNUMX.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 865: one Kryo 585 core @ 2,84GHz, three Kryo 585 cores @ 2,42GHz, four Kryo 585 cores @ 1,8GHz
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855: One Kryo 485 Gold core 2,85GHz + three Kryo 485 Gold cores 2,42GHz + four Kryo 485 Silver cores 1,8GHz
Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G: 475 x Kryo 2,4 Prime 475GHz + 2,2 x Kryo 475 Gold 1,8GHz, 5 x Kryo XNUMX Silver XNUMXGHz; XNUMXG modem
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus: One Kryo 485 Gold Core @ 2,96GHz + Three Kryo 485 Gold Cores @ 2,42GHz + Four Kryo 485 Silver Cores @ 1,78GHz
HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G: eight cores (2 x ARM Cortex-A76 @ 2,86GHz + 2 x ARM Cortex-A76 @ 2,36GHz + 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1,95GHz); HiAI architecture; 5G modem
Xiaomi has not betrayed itself and made its flagship once again extremely relevant in design, but at the same time it does not stand out at all from the general background. The Mi 10 looks exactly what you would expect from a fairly expensive Android smartphone in 2020: a curved screen with a front-facing camera hole in the corner (in this case, a single one) and a glass back with a hefty multi-camera unit. But at least the cameras are not assembled in a square in the manner of Apple (this fashion, of course, was immediately picked up by a lot of people).
However, there is still no need to talk about individuality in relation to Mi 10 - this is a neat, stylish smartphone “without a face”. Even the budget Redmi Note 9S (9 Pro) got a more recognizable image. What is the reason for such a consistent rejection of any risk with the choice of the most proven and boring design solutions is not clear.
Ergonomically, Xiaomi Mi 10 is also quite typical - the curved front panel helps to hold a huge smartphone (with a display diagonal of 6,67 inches) in your hand relatively comfortably, as far as you can talk about comfort in relation to gadgets of this size. The back panel is also curved. But all this also leads to an additional risk of breaking a slippery and at the same time fragile device (there is Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides, but this is not one hundred percent protection in the event of a fall, of course), simply by unsuccessfully placing it on an insufficiently flat surface - both face and back . However, this problem affects almost all current smartphones. It is not completely resolved, but you can reduce the risk by putting the gadget in a case that will make it even larger and hide the pretty glass on the back panel. In the kit, as usual, there is.
There are practically no frames around the elongated screen - it occupies 89,8% of the front surface area. Xiaomi Mi 10 weighs a very impressive 208 grams, but this is no longer surprising - compared to My 9 it is, of course, a giant, but competitors are moving in the same direction. Smartphones lighter than 200 grams with flagship status are rare.
There are three color variations of Xiaomi Mi 10: green, gold and gray, as in our case.
Functional elements are quite familiar: the smartphone is edged with metal, so plastic inserts around the perimeter should not surprise; both physical keys are placed on the right edge, and the SIM card tray (in our case, the only one) is on the bottom. On the top, two microphones immediately attract attention. There is no declared moisture protection, there is no mini-jack either. Nothing unusual.
User identification is carried out either using classical methods (PIN code, password, pattern), or face recognition thanks to a single front camera, or, of course, by scanning a fingerprint - the sensor is built into the sandwich screen in this case. An optical sensor is used, it does not react to wet fingers, but in general this is one of the best on-screen fingerprint sensors that I have seen: it works very quickly and almost does not allow marriage. Separately, I note the well-implemented tactile feedback - the touch panel reacts very clearly, you feel great pressing.
