Another smart TV under the Hyundai brand is on the agenda. Model H-LED55BU7003 belongs to the economical price category and has a 55-inch screen with 4K resolution. This time, the manufacturer chose YaOS as the user interface of the operating system.
Technical characteristics, price
Hyundai H-LED55BU7003 is equipped with a VA type screen matrix, which provides a high rated contrast ratio of 5000:1, but has a small brightness reserve of only 250 cd/m2. As a result, the HDR mode is not even formally supported by the TV.
Like other models under the Hyundai brand that we studied earlier, the H-LED55BU7003 is assembled in the Republic of Belarus, at the Horizon plant. The minimum cost of the device during the review period was just over 29 thousand rubles, which makes the H-LED55BU7003 one of the most affordable offers on the Russian market with a 55-inch screen diagonal and 4K resolution.

Design and construction
Hyundai H-LED55BU7003 is assembled in the same body as the related model H-LED55BU7006, which we reviewed in the last review, with minimal cosmetic differences, which boil down to the shape of the legs and the decorative strip under the screen, as well as a glossy edging. The TV screen is conventionally frameless, covered with a very effective anti-glare film.

There is a power button on the back, and an LED indicator light guide is attached to the bottom of the device body, which lights up red in standby mode. There are no other indicators or controls on the TV.

The cabinet is 89mm deep at the bottom, where all the electronics and speakers for the built-in speaker system are located, but tapers to 42mm at the top.

H-LED55BU7003 is mounted on a VESA bracket measuring 200 × 200 mm or the minimalist supports included in the kit. The legs are cast from metal and rigidly fix the lightweight TV in a vertical position.

All connectors, except the power input, are located on a single patch panel, open for access from the side. The TV connects to external video sources via three HDMI ports (one of them with ARC function) or an analogue composite input in the form of a 3,5 mm TRRS mini-jack (but an adapter for RCA connectors is not included in the package). The built-in TV tuner has connectors for coaxial cable types F and Belling-Lee and a CI slot for installing a CAM module. To connect an external speaker system, an S/PDIF interface with an RCA connector is provided. Finally, the TV has a wired LAN connector and two USB 2.0 ports.

The H-LED55BU7003 comes with a compact control panel that has only the most necessary buttons. The device communicates with the TV via an IR channel and a Bluetooth interface, which allows the use of a near-field microphone, which is necessary for the operation of the Alice voice assistant. The TV software also supports other pointing devices, including a computer keyboard and mouse.

Functionality
The TV runs YaOS, which is a user interface add-on to the Android operating system (in this case version nine). The main screen of YaOS is organized according to the same principle as in Android TV, only in the foreground is the content (movies and music) of Yandex.
Additional apps are also installed from a small YaOS catalog, all representing various Russian media services. Fortunately, the TV allows you to open YouTube without additional software, and you can use the file manager to install any APK packages. In theory, even the Play Store, although it is the latter (in the latest version downloaded from Server Google) didn't start for us.
The YaOS interface works smoothly (at least no worse than Android TV on similar hardware), only the contents of the main page tabs are sometimes updated with a long delay.

The TV reads external drives formatted in the FAT or NTFS file system, but does not support ExFAT. The device easily plays video in H.264, HEVC and AV1 formats. 4K YouTube recordings also play without dropping frames after initial buffering.

Although the H-LED55BU7003's specifications indicate that the HDMI ports are 2.1 compliant, it is not possible to set the refresh rate higher than 4Hz at 30K resolution. Color encoding is only 8 bits per channel. The TV allows you to adjust the dynamic range of HDMI and even enable the “game mode” option, which reduces input lag, but the latter, of course, is only relevant at 1080p resolution.

Image quality
The TV settings menu offers several ready-made image processing modes that set key color parameters and also control auxiliary functions - automatic brightness control, noise reduction and removal of compression artifacts. Unlike more expensive Hyundai models, the H-LED55BU7003 cannot perform frame interpolation and lacks the DI Film feature, which eliminates visible judder in DVD recordings encoded with interlace and a 2:3 or 2:2 repeat field rate. Software control of local contrast is also not provided.

The H-LED55BU7003 screen has a brightness of 253 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 4:786, high even by VA panel standards.
| Picture Mode | Maximum brightness, cd/m2 | Contrast, :1 |
|---|---|---|
| "Standard" | 234 | 4421 |
| "Sport" | 229 | 4311 |
| "Movie" | 228 | 4289 |
| "A game" | 253 | 4786 |
The color range in any of the preset modes does not completely cover the sRGB space - up to 91%.

All modes use a "medium" gamma correction setting, which approximates a power function with an exponent of 2,1. In turn, the “light” option is close to the power function 1,9. The optimal choice for watching movies is a "dark" gamma correction, similar to the 2,3 power function.
We performed the following tests in the sRGB color space with dark gamma correction, maximum screen backlight brightness, and noise reduction functions disabled.

The reference color temperature of about 6 K is provided by only one of the four modes - “Standard”. In other modes it exceeds 500 K.

The gamma correction curve set by a separate setting does not change depending on the active color correction mode.

All modes showed significant gray balance distortion in the lower half of the brightness range, especially Standard mode.

The limited color range and unstable gray balance result in high color error values, even by consumer technology standards.

The screen backlight allows wide deviations of maximum brightness from the central zone - up to 21%. However, according to the criteria of average brightness and difference in contrast, the uniformity of illumination can be considered acceptable, and highlights on a dark background are almost invisible to the naked eye due to the very low brightness of black.

Sound quality
The built-in speaker system of the H-LED55BU7003, like most TVs, is practically unable to reproduce frequencies below 100 Hz and also loses volume in the upper part of the audible range. Certain frequencies cause the cabinet to resonate—fortunately, not too sharply. The maximum speaker volume when playing pink noise at a distance of 2 m from the screen is moderate - about 76 dBA.
Conclusions
At a price of less than 30 thousand rubles. Hyundai H-LED55BU7003 is part of a narrow group of the most affordable smart TVs with a diagonal of 55 inches and 4K resolution in Russian retail. Unlike slightly more expensive devices, such TVs are already noticeably limited in their capabilities. Thus, when connected to external 4K signal sources, the device does not support refresh rates above 30 Hz, and the color range covers only 91% of the sRGB space. The Hyundai H-LED55BU7003 is helped by the high contrast of the VA matrix, and the brightness of 250 cd/m2 is on the verge, but enough for viewing SDR content in a darkened room (the review hero is not compatible with HDR).
