New version of GNU Awk 5.1 interpreter

Submitted by new major release of the GNU Project's implementation of the AWK programming language - Gawk 5.1.0. AWK was developed in the 70s of the last century and has not undergone significant changes since the mid-80s, in which the basic backbone of the language was defined, which has allowed it to maintain the pristine stability and simplicity of the language over the past decades. Despite its advanced age, AWK is still actively used by administrators to perform routine work related to parsing various types of text files and generating simple resulting statistics.

  • The API version number has been raised to 3 (reflecting changes in the 5.x branch);
  • Memory leaks fixed;
  • The components of the assembly infrastructure Bison 3.5.4, Texinfo 6.7, Gettext 0.20.1, Automake 1.16.2 have been updated.
  • Indexing in the manual has been reworked, formatting which now requires Texinfo 6.7;
  • MSYS2 support has been added to the configure script;
  • Accumulated bugs fixed.
