New version of the operating system Viola Education 10.2

The company "Basalt SPO" has released a new version of the operating system for educational organizations - "Alt Education" 10.2, built on the basis of the Tenth ALT platform (p10). The assemblies are prepared for the x86_64, AArch64 (Baikal-M) and i586 platforms. The OS is intended for everyday use by preschool organizations, schools, universities, and secondary specialized educational institutions. The Product is provided under a License Agreement, which allows free use by individuals, but legal entities are only allowed to test, and use is required to purchase a commercial license or enter into a written license agreement.

"Alt Education" allows you to create and integrate jobs for students, students, and teachers. The required set of programs can be selected at the OS installation stage or downloaded at any time from a special meta-package. The operating system provides centralized classroom management, automated simultaneous installation on several workstations, supports guest sessions, can work in a heterogeneous network, contains a video conference server (based on Jitsi Meet), is compatible with educational web services and domestic software, works with interactive whiteboards . During the system installation process, users can choose the graphical environment Xfce 4.18 (default) or KDE Plasma 5.27. It is possible to download the P7-Office office package from the P7 JSC repository, compiled for use in the Viola OS.

The main differences between β€œAlt Education” 10.2 and the previous version:

  • A general update of the distribution package base has been carried out. The software versions used include Perl 5.34, Python 3.9, PHP 8.0, Scribus 1.5, GIMP 2.10, Inkscape 1.2, Blender 2.93, Chromium 117.0, Glibc 2.32, GCC 10 and systemd 249.16;
  • Linux 6.1 kernel used;
  • Added the ability to select a Wi-Fi network before entering your login when logging in if the KDE Plasma graphical environment is installed;
  • The LibreOffice package has been updated to version 7.5 and moved to a separate installation point; Belarusian localization has been added with spell checking, morphological analysis and hyphenation;
  • Added tools that allow people with visual impairments to work with computers and the Internet (Orca, Speech-dispatcher);
  • A group of Robotics programs has been added to the installer, including GZ-Simulator (a robotics simulator that simulates the work of several robots in a 3D environment with dynamic interaction between objects) and Arduino (a programmable platform for the development of electronic devices);
  • Fixed an issue with name resolution being unavailable on some networks.
