New details about upcoming 14nm Intel Comet Lake and 10nm Elkhart Lake processors

Not so long ago it became known that Intel is preparing another generation of 14nm desktop processors, which will be called Comet Lake. And now ComputerBase has found out when we can expect the appearance of these processors, as well as new Atom chips from the Elkhart Lake family.

The source of the leak is the roadmap of MiTAC, a company specializing in embedded systems and solutions. According to the data presented, this manufacturer plans to offer its solutions on Elkhart Lake generation Atom processors in the first quarter of 2020. And products based on Comet Lake chips will be released a little later: in the second quarter of next year.

Of course, it is important to remember here that embedded systems based on certain processors do not appear immediately after the release of the chips. This is especially true for Core series processors, which will initially debut in retail as stand-alone products and as part of systems from major OEMs.

So the appearance of embedded solutions based on Comet Lake processors in the second quarter of 2020 only tells us that new products will be presented a little earlier. In recent years, Intel has introduced its new desktop processors in October, and it is very likely that the situation will repeat itself in the case of Comet Lake. Usually, at first, Intel presents only older processor models, and after a while the family expands with other chips.

As for the Elkhart Lake generation Atom processors, they should in some way revive the Atom brand, which has been going through hard times in recent years. According to preliminary data, these processors will be produced according to the 10-nm process technology, so they should not be expected before the end of this year. But the first quarter of 2020 looks like a very real time period for their launch. Recall that the first 10-nm processors from Intel, not counting the "trial" Cannon Lake, should be Ice Lake-U mobile processors, which may be released at the very end of this or early next year.
