New Phoenix Point Issues: Tactical Game Not Coming to Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass Yet

X-COM series creator Julian Gollop's tactical game Phoenix Point became a temporary exclusive during development Epic Games Store. In this store, it was released on time, December 3, but it still has not appeared in the Microsoft Store (the agreement provides for a one-year delay only on Steam). According to the creators, they encountered unforeseen problems and cannot give an exact release date. With an Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription, the game will also be unavailable until an indefinite time.

It turned out that not all content is available in the Microsoft Store version. Developers on the official forum explainedthat this is due to the incomplete certification process. β€œWe were too busy preparing the game itself for release,” wrote a representative of the studio. β€œIn addition, we have no experience with Xbox Game Pass and the Microsoft Store. We have not prepared properly for the release of the game for these platforms. Unlike others with which we are intimately familiar, these come with additional requirements, from mandatory Microsoft certification to review of legal documents. We are almost done with this business, but more delays could not be avoided.”

One way or another, the starting problems of the game were not limited to this. Despite several delays (originally the premiere was scheduled for the end of 2018), Phoenix Point came out with many technical flaws. Users complain about a variety of bugs (including making the game impassable), underdeveloped AI, frame rate drops, freezes and clumsy animations.

Critics complain not only about the technical condition of Phoenix Point, but also about its excessive resemblance to XCOM: Enemy Unknown ΠΈ XCOM 2. β€œLike XCOM, Phoenix Point is an exciting tactical game with strategy elements,” wrote the journalist. VG247 Sam White (Sam White), rated 3/5 points. β€œLike XCOM, it's enjoyable and surprisingly good at holding tension, and combat scenarios can be replayed endlessly without losing depth. I love most of the unique ideas here, but almost all of the designs have a strong sense of dΓ©jΓ  vu. Whether this game borrows or steals [XCOM's] ideas, Phoenix Point is too much like it to push the genre forward in any way."

However, not all journalists agree with this opinion. "Calling Phoenix Point an 'extended XCOM' is not fair," said an employee God is a Geek Mick Fraser, who rated it 9/10. β€œThe similarities are hard to miss, but each and every idea that Snapshot Games has the right to call their own adds depth and color to the familiar formula.” Reviewer Trusted Reviews Alastair Stevenson noted that players will see Phoenix Point as "one of the most elaborate and fun turn-based strategy games in a long time" if they can shift their focus from bugs to the project itself.

In the first quarter of 2020, the game is planned to be released on the Xbox One, and later on the PlayStation 4. The developers are also preparing five paid add-ons.
