New SIM cards from China Unicom have up to 128 GB of internal memory

Standard SIM cards currently in use have up to 256 KB of memory. A small amount of memory allows you to store a list of contacts and a certain number of SMS messages. This situation may change soon. Network sources report that Chinese state telecommunications operator China Unicom, with the support of Ziguang Group, has developed a completely new SIM card, which will go on sale this year.

New SIM cards from China Unicom have up to 128 GB of internal memory

We are talking about a 5G Super SIM device, which boasts a much more capacious drive. Variants with 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB of internal memory are reported. Moreover, in the near future the company intends to organize the supply of SIM-cards with 512 GB and 1 TB of memory. According to available information, the memory of the new SIM card can be used to store photos, videos and other data from the user's smartphone. To implement this feature, you will have to install a special application for data backup. It is also mentioned that the information in the memory of the SIM card will be reliably protected by enterprise-level encryption.

The new SIM card will not be supported by all smartphones. At this stage, only devices offered by the carrier will be able to support 5G Super SIM, as additional software settings are required to use the card. At the moment, the operator has not announced the cost of new items and a list of compatible devices.

It is worth mentioning that this month, China Unicom launched a 5G network in test mode in Shanghai. The commercial use of China Unicom's fifth generation communication network, which will cover 40 Chinese cities, will begin in October 2019. Most likely, sales of 5G Super SIM will begin at the end of the year.
