New versions of Claws Mail 3.20.0 and 4.2.0

After a year and a half of development, the releases of a light and fast email client, Claws Mail 3.20.0 and 4.2.0, were published, which in 2005 separated from the Sylpheed project (from 2001 to 2005, the projects developed together, Claws was used to test future Sylpheed innovations). The Claws Mail interface is built using GTK and the code is licensed under the GPL. The 3.x and 4.x branches are developed in parallel and differ in the version of the GTK library used: the 3.x branch uses GTK2, and the 4.x branch uses GTK3.

Key innovations:

  • Added the ability to open the selected mail folder immediately after startup (enabled through the 'Open on start-up' item in the context menu shown when right-clicking on the folder name, or in the 'Folder list' tab of the settings section /Configuration/Preferences/Display/ Summaries).
  • Added statistics about detected spam to the session information page.
  • Added the ability to save only attachments to a letter, without other parts of the message.
  • Added support for the search expression “v HV” to quick search.
  • Definition of MIME types "font/*" and "chemical/*" is provided.
  • IMAP supports SCRAM-SHA-{224,256,384,512} authentication mechanisms.
  • A progress bar for deletion operations via IMAP has been added to the status bar.
  • Removed GData plugin.
  • The Fancy plugin no longer requires libsoup and libsoup-gnome as dependencies.
  • The LiteHTML Viewer plugin code is synchronized with the litehtml 0.7 library and requires at least libgumbo 0.12 for assembly.
  • Added options "--enable-more-addressbook-debug" and "-enable-more-ldap-debug" for advanced debugging of address book and LDAP calls.
  • Improved interface translation into Russian.
