The Cosmonaut Training Center (CPC) named after Yu. A. Gagarin, according to TASS, will organize a new recruitment into its squad before the end of this year.

The previous recruitment to the cosmonaut corps was opened in March 2017. The competition included a search for specialists to work on the International Space Station (ISS) program, as well as to train to pilot the new Russian Federation spacecraft and possibly send it to the Moon. Based on the selection results, the cosmonaut corps included eight people, whose names were are named in August last year.

As it has now become known, the next recruitment will start in 2019, but the exact dates have not been disclosed. Obviously, the program will be announced in the third or fourth quarter. The names of new candidates for the cosmonaut corps are planned to be announced next year.

β€œThis year we are announcing a competition, and then there will be a procedure that will definitely not end this year,” the CPC said.

Traditionally, very stringent requirements will be imposed on potential astronauts. In addition to a complex of medical examinations, the psychological qualities of applicants are analyzed, their physical fitness, professional suitability, the presence of a certain body of knowledge, etc. are assessed. Only a citizen of our country can be a candidate for cosmonaut of the Russian Federation.
