The new project will allow you to run Android applications on Linux

The new project "SPURV" will make it possible to run Android applications on desktop Linux. This is an experimental Android container environment that can run Android applications on par with regular Linux applications on the Wayland display server.

In a certain sense, it can be compared to the Bluestacks emulator, which allows you to run Android applications under Windows in windowed mode. Similar to Bluestacks, "SPURV" creates an emulated device on a Linux system. But unlike Bluestacks, it's not an all-in-one runtime that you can download and install.

"SPURV" is more like a set of tools that can be used to set up an Android container, install Android apps inside it, and run those apps in full screen mode on a Wayland desktop on a Linux system on top of the Linux kernel.

Tech wizardry allows Android apps to use the hardware features of the underlying Linux system, such as graphics, audio, networking, and more (see screenshot).

The video demonstration is given simultaneous use of Linux and Android applications in Wayland.

The development is carried out by the British company Collabora.

Source codes can be downloaded from Gitlab.
