Recently, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), a website dedicated to cinema, presented a ranking of the most anticipated films of 2020 based on views of the corresponding pages. Immediately after the leader in the DC comics universe film “Birds of Prey” by Cathy Yan, the film “Sonic the Movie” by Jeff Fowler, based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games, was named.
In order to maintain interest in the film, the film company Paramount Pictures has released a new commercial, in which the main focus is on Sonic the Hedgehog in infancy. The description reads: “Innocent laugh, sweet expression and plump body. This was the era of Sonic in its infancy. Little Sonic runs energetically around his peaceful “island” on the edge of his native universe. He is very fast and can fly across the entire island in the blink of an eye.”
Also in the description for the trailer, SEGA shared current statistics: games in the Sonic the Hedgehog series over the 28 years since 1991 have sold an official circulation of about 920 million copies. Sonic has truly become one of the most recognizable characters in popular culture from the world of video games, so the appearance of a movie about him was inevitable.
By the way, in November Paramount Pictures a new trailer for “Sonic the Movie,” in which I listened to fans of the Sonic gaming universe. The fact is that the image of a supersonic hedgehog from the reaction was very negative, so even one of the creators of the series, Yuji Naka, ironically asked whether the film was really being made about Sonic.
As a result, Paramount moved the premiere date and decided to completely redraw the main character closer to the classic look. The premiere is scheduled for February 14, 2020.
