The new fighter of Bleeding Edge is a crazy dolphin in an aquarium tank

Xbox Game Studios and Ninja Theory have unveiled a new Bleeding Edge hero, Mekko the Dolphin (this is a clear reference to Ecco the Dolphin). The game is notorious for having rather oddly designed characters, and a cybernetically enhanced dolphin in an aquarium tank fits right in with this approach.

The history of Mekko is rather sad. He was one of several dolphins subjected to traumatic experiments with hydroacoustic communication technology, allowing them to speak and control combat platforms. Only Mekko survived, and he promised revenge on the people who had hurt him. Over time, the hero realized that not all of humanity is cruel, and found a new calling - to fight other outcasts in the arenas.

Mekko's role in Bleeding Edge is a tank. He can shoot from afar, block a significant amount of damage with his shield, knock down opponents, heal, give allies armor and take hits instead of them. Among the ults is a move that knocks back enemies and deals a lot of damage to everyone in front of Mekko; and a trap bubble, inside which the enemy is immune to damage, but the victim's allies can damage the bubble to free the target.

Mekko's weakness is low mobility. The hero lacks the dodge mechanic (which everyone else has), making him easily susceptible to combos, stuns, and other hazards.

The character will not be available at the launch of Bleeding Edge. However, Ninja Theory assures that players won't have to wait long. Mekko will appear on the roster of fighters as part of the launch window, within "weeks, not months" of the release of Bleeding Edge on March 24 on PC and Xbox One.
