NPD Group: In March, Nintendo Switch took the lead again, the best-selling game is The Division 2
Analyst company NPD Group has published data on sales of video games and consoles for March 2019 in the United States of America. Nintendo Switch was the winner of the first quarter.
According to gaming industry analyst Mat Piscatella, device sales fell 15% year-over-year and consumer spending fell 13% in the first quarter to $759 million. in demand and became the top-selling platform in the US in March 2019, surpassing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, the Nintendo Switch was the top-selling system in the first quarter of the year in both volume and dollar terms.
Mat Piscatella notes that the Nintendo Switch continues to perform well in the categories of devices, games and accessories. The analyst believes that the momentum of the platform will not slow down anytime soon.
Among the games in March 2019, the chart was topped by Tom Clancy's The Division 2. It also became the second best selling game of the year and the sixth most successful launch in Ubisoft history. Still holding first place of the year Kingdom Hearts III, which is now the best-selling installment in the history of the franchise, as it completely outperformed Kingdom Hearts II. Keep in mind that Kingdom Hearts III came out on January 25th, and Tom Clancy's The Division 2 came out on March 15th.
Ranked second on the monthly chart Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (and it's the second best launch in From Software history) and third is MLB 19: The Show. According to Piscatella, the latter's sales at launch are the largest in franchise history and also set a new record in baseball games.
The NPD Group tracks retail sales as well as publisher-provided digital sales data. But Nintendo, for example, does not share such information regarding their projects, and Activision does not disclose Battle.net figures. The charts are also based on dollar sales, not the number of copies sold.
