NPD Group: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare took first place in US sales in October
Gaming fans in the United States spent $1,03 billion on consoles, new releases and accessories in October, according to analytics firm NPD Group. This is 34% less than in October last year, but then the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games.
βIn October 2019, tracked spending on game consoles, software, accessories and game cards was $1,03 billion,β said NPD analyst Mat Piscatella. βThis is the second-highest total for the month of October this decade, second only to the record $1,57 billion in October 2018.β
Until September, 2019 had largely kept pace with 2018, but the fall periodβthe time when the biggest releases usually come outβis making its presence felt. Last October, such high-profile projects as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Thus, as expected, the 2019 figures are significantly lower than the previous comparable period.
βAnnual spending on tracked consoles, software, accessories and game cards fell 10% from 2018 to $9,3 billion,β Piscatella said.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare debuted the best in October 2019 and within half a month became the best-selling game of 2019 to date. For the 12th year in a row, the Call of Duty shooter is the best-selling game of the month of its release. The franchise remains the best-selling franchise in US history in dollar terms.
Luigi's Mansion 3 took third place in October 2019, and was also the best-selling game of the month on Nintendo Switch. The project set a new sales record for the franchise in its launch month, surpassing the previous high set by Luigi's Mansion.
