NsCDE, a retro CDE environment that supports modern technologies

The project NsCDE (Not so Common Desktop Environment) is developing a desktop environment that offers a retro interface in the style Spanish Sporthorse (Common Desktop Environment), adapted for use on modern Unix-like systems and Linux. The environment is based on the window manager VWF with skins, apps, patches and add-ons to recreate the original CDE desktop. Project Code spreads licensed under GPLv3. add-ons written in Python and Shell.

The goal of the project is to provide a comfortable and convenient environment for lovers of retro style that supports modern technologies and does not cause discomfort due to the lack of functionality. To give user applications a CDE style, skin generators for Xt, Xaw, Motif, GTK2, GTK3, Qt4 and Qt5 have been prepared, allowing you to style the design of most programs using X11 for a retro interface. NsCDE allows you to associate CDE styling with modern technologies such as font rasterization using XFT, Unicode, dynamic and functional menus, virtual desktops, applets, desktop wallpapers, skins/icons, and so on.
