NVIDIA Ampere may not be in time for the third quarter

Yesterday resource DigiTimes announced that TSMC and Samsung will be involved to varying degrees in the production of NVIDIA video chips of future generations, but that's not all the news. Ampere architecture graphics solutions may not meet the announcement in the third quarter due to the coronavirus, and production of 5nm Hopper GPUs will begin next year.

NVIDIA Ampere may not be in time for the third quarter

Site with access to paid source materials Tom's Hardware felt it necessary to clarify that NVIDIA is trying to balance between TSMC and Samsung, involving both companies in the release of Ampere and Hopper graphics solutions. This year, TSMC will be tasked with producing the highest performing Ampere GPUs using 7nm technology. Samsung will receive orders to manufacture smaller GPUs using 7nm or 8nm technologies, the first of which relies on ultra-hard ultraviolet (EUV) lithography.

In 2021, NVIDIA, according to the source, will try to catch up with competitors in the field of lithography, and therefore the start of production of Hopper GPUs using 5nm technology is already scheduled for this period. Tellingly, TSMC and Samsung will once again share their respective orders, with a margin in favor of the former. NVIDIA's attempts to achieve better terms under the contract with TSMC by expanding cooperation with Samsung did not bring much benefit, since the Taiwanese contractor has no end to customers. Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang is scheduled to broadcast in mid-May, and some details about the company's future products should be revealed at this virtual event.
