NVIDIA May Lead SHIELD Convertible Tablet Development

According to online sources, NVIDIA, whose main activity is the production of graphics processors, is working on creating a hybrid two-in-one device that can be used as a laptop or tablet computer. This is indicated by code found in the Shield Experience software, indicating that the company is preparing a software product that allows the device to switch between multiple user interface modes.

The report also states that the mysterious device is codenamed “Mystique.” When using a keyboard dock, it can act as a laptop, but without it it turns into a tablet. One can only guess what the new NVIDIA tablet might turn out to be like. The original SHIELD device was powered by the Tegra X1 processor, which is still used in Nintendo Switch handheld consoles. It was assumed that the next version of the tablet will receive a Tegra X2 chip. However, after studying the detected code, experts concluded that NVIDIA uses the Tegra Xavier processor, which is designed for autonomous vehicles. Perhaps the chip operates in a low-power mode, due to which it will be able to work normally when receiving power from the tablet’s battery.

It is worth noting that NVIDIA officials have not yet confirmed or denied rumors about the development of a convertible tablet computer. Let us remember that several years ago, when NVIDIA decided to stop producing tablets, company president Jensen Huang said that the vendor’s return to the mobile device market could only happen with “devices that are not yet in the world.” What actually hides behind the mysterious name “Mystique” is still anyone’s guess.
