NVIDIA Introduces GeForce 450.82 DirectX 12 Ultimate Developer Driver

In March after the presentation of the Xbox Series X console Microsoft has introduced a new version of its API - DirectX 12 Ultimate. It promises DirectX Raytracing (DXR) 1.1, Variable Rate Shading 2 (VRS 2), Mesh Shaders and Sampler Feedback. All this will bring a significant performance boost in next-generation games. NVIDIA has now released a GeForce 450.82 developer preview driver with DX12U support. All features require a Turing accelerator to fully function.

NVIDIA GeForce DirectX 12 Ultimate Developer Preview 450.82 is available for download for registered users. This is the first driver from NVIDIA to support DirectX 12 Ultimate. Now developers can start testing new features in their games on NVIDIA accelerators.

All the new DX12U technologies have essentially the same goal: to optimize the performance of the graphics accelerator, as well as to reduce the load on the central processor. On the driver page NVIDIA also cited some statements from the developers.

For example, Epic Games CTO Marcus Wassmer said, β€œDirectX 12 Ultimate unlocks the latest graphics hardware technology with support for ray tracing, polygon shaders and variable rate shading. This is the new gold standard for next-gen gaming."

In turn, Anton Yudintsev, Executive Director of Gaijin Entertainment, said: β€œBy investing in next-generation graphics features using DirectX 12 Ultimate, we know that our work will benefit players on PC and future consoles, and projects will look the way we would like. ".

To take full advantage of DirectX 12U now, you'll need to install the latest update for Windows 10, version 20H1, which is due for final build next month. Microsoft reportedly released the final preview build of this major May update for its OS today.
